How to get more leads

And close them

GM thinkers, it’s been a few weeks since I haven’t sent this newsletter, but we’re back!

I’ve been moving countries and am mega busy building the next part of my journey. I’m excited to share this with you all in next week’s edition. Today, I want to tell you about my progress over the last month or so and how you can apply some of that sauce to your cookery.

Reputation is your biggest funnel

My ghostwriting business has been a crazy journey so far. I passed the 6 months mark since my first payment on July 17 this week, with only 1 client at the time.

Fast forward to January, and my world has changed entirely.

Let’s take a look at my inbound leads flow first

I had 0 referrals for the first 5 months and 12 since October. Now, how could you do the same?

I attribute this to several key factors

  • I never take any paid content enquiry. It’s just not worth the $500, period. My content is my thoughts and mine alone. I focus on giving more value than I take from my audience, and that resonates with people in the long run.

  • I talk about my business at least once a week. I’m not making millions yet, but I’ve shared my progress as transparently as possible. You’d be surprised at how many DMs I got after posting about my wins.

  • Speaking about my journey on spaces. This one has been a recent move I made in January. I’ve been a guest on 5 spaces and spoken on a further 12 so far, talking about ghostwriting and building a solopreneur web3 business. Believe me, when people can hear you know what you’re talking about, they’ll follow up with you.

  • Building a networks. I’ve been proactive with hopping on calls and networking over the last 6 months, and many people in my network have opportunities they can’t or don’t want to handle, and guess who they will refer when a ghostwriting gig comes along?

I’m not special, you can absolutely do this too. I’ve completely changed my life in 6 months with a lot of sweat and hard work, but that’s all it took.

How to close potential clients

There is a cold truth out there as to why you don’t close those leads

Let me go deeper on the above tweet. Web3 is all about social proof, and it should be your #1 priority.

a few days ago I was on a call with a potential leads, and I was referred to him, he didn’t check my content. However as we got towards the end of the call, he asked if I was able to give him the names of my clients for some Proof Of Work. Obviously as a ghostwriter, you can’t do that and it could easily be a big blocker for the client.

So, how do you overcome that? By having YOUR content as your social proof. I showed this guy my Typefully profile with my best threads, and guess what? He had seen many of my threads, but since I changed PFP, he just didn't recognise me.

That was the final nail needed to lock the deal. Not showing my client’s content, but being my own proof of work.

If you think being a ghostwriter is about talking about ghostwriting, you’re mistaken. I only talk about it for 10-20% of the content I create. My main focus is to remain a web3 content creator, because that’s the type of clients I want. If I was looking to launch a course, then maybe I’d talk about copywriting and ghostwriting more, but that’s not where I’m at.

So, if you have <1000 followers and have branded yourself as a ghostwriter, I’d highly recommend you to shift back to the niche you’re interested writing about, it will lead to many more opportunities.

What I’ve been working

I’m absolutely buzzing to announce the launch of my new agency, thereplyguy.xyz!

Creating content is often the easier part of growing on X, and engagement the hard one. I spoke with dozens of founders over the last few months and they all had the same issue.

Spending another 1, 2, 3h per day engaging and replying on X. That’s when the idea came to me, and I realised it was a completely untapped business, and far more scalable than launching a ghostwriting agency.

Every big influencer, or builder is likely squeezed for time, and I’m here to help and alleviate the pain they are facing.

If you have a second and would like to support me, engage with this announcement tweet, it would mean the world <3.
